Explorer Post

Quakertown Fire Co. No. 1 sponsors Explorer Post 17. The Explorer Post is a coed organization affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America which allows anybody aged 14 to 20 to explore everything involved in firefighting. Explorers are introduced to concepts such as equipment, search and rescue, hose lines, ropes and knots, water supply, incident command and management, radio communications, and more.

The Explorer Post meets every Wednesday during the Summer and Every other Wednesday during the school year. Explorers can be junior firefighters from Quakertown and other companies or they can be non-firefighters who are interested in finding out what firefighting all about.

In addition to firefighter training held at station 17, the Explorer post has visited facilities such as police stations, hospitals, Philadelphia fire stations, the Bucks County Dispatch Center, Lehigh Valley Hospital’s MediVac helicopter, and more.

Anybody interested in becoming an Explorer should contact Captain Chris Erwin at the station at 215-536-3743.
