Quakertown Fire Company No. 1 is one of two stations in the Quakertown Fire Department, both of which share the same response area. QFC #1 is Station 17 in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Station 17 and Station 18 (West End Fire Company) serve the Borough of Quakertown, as well as approximately 50 percent of Richland Township and a large portion of East Rockhill Township.
Quakertown Fire Company No. 1 responds to approximately 400 calls per year in its 20 square mile response area. With a large mix of residential dwellings and complexes, commercial stores and buildings, industrial factories and warehouses, and educational facilities in its first due, QFC #1 has a wide and complex array of response types. Structure fires, vehicular rescues, industrial rescues, gas leaks, downed wires, hazardous materials incidents, downed aircraft, brush fires, water rescues, and more; Station 17 has experienced them all.
Located at the intersection of West Broad Street and Fifth Street in Quakertown, Pennsylvania, Station 17 is situated nicely between the residential mid-section of the Borough and the historical “downtown” commercial area on the east end of the town. Running two pumpers and the Chemical truck out of the station, complimented by Tower 18, Squirt 18, and Rescue 18 from the other station, Quakertown Fire Company No. 1 protects billions of dollars in property from historic buildings such as the Red Lion Inn, the Quakertown Train Station, and the Globe Hotel, to modern, high-tech industrial complexes such as GAF Roofing and FiberMark.
The approximately 50 members of Quakertown Fire Company No. 1 represent a very eclectic cross-section of the community. School teachers, truck drivers, machinists, retail managers, police officers, funeral directors, accountants, computer technicians, electricians, municipal workers, students, and many more; these men and women selflessly serve their community for no pay other than the satisfaction experienced when serving others.
Quakertown Fire Company No. 1 has seen a century of dedicated service to Quakertown and the surrounding community.
